Paul and the team will be in Transylvania in May this year preparing the gala dinner for an event Organized by Ratiu foundation. The event, The Ratiu Dialogues on Democracy – Transylvania 2019 takes place in the Romanian city of Turda.
The goal of the event is to highlight the migration of refugee issue, particularly Syrians. In this event, Paul will be meeting with a Syrian refugee chef, who he will work with to produce the gala dinner.
The event is expected to attract large group of influential politicians and academics. Professor Christopher Coker from LSE IDEAS is expected to be present and speak on Values / Norms and the challenge of EU membership. As well Professor John Ryder from the American University in Malta has confirmed to attend. He will speak about liberalism. From the US is Professor Henry Steck will also join and speak on the topic of Democracy 30 Years On. The organizers have also confirmed that ex labour minister Lord David Owen will give a talk on his book, “Hubris, The Road to Donald Trump, Power, Populism, Narcissism”.
There will be a panel discussion about Good Governance, Migration, and the importance of Academic Cooperation and University Think-Tanks and their role in preserving and expanding liberal democracy.
The annual awards for Investigative Journalism and the Elisabeth Ratiu Mental Health will also be featured in this event. The organizers have also planned political documentaries, exhibitions, dinners and cultural events during the 6 days event. Romanian violinist Vlad Maistrovici and internationally recognized Pianist Maistro Dan Grigore will be performing in the event.
